City of Council Bluffs issued the following announcement on Jan. 15.

Registration is open for Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation baseball and fast-pitch recreation leagues! Parks and Recreation offer youth baseball leagues for children ages 14 and under, and girls fast-pitch leagues for girls ages 14 and under. All leagues use modified USSSA rules. Tee ball and machine pitch registration will open in February.

Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation is committed to providing a fun, safe, and educational environment in which children can learn the fundamentals of baseball and softball, develop skills, and socialize with other children.

The youth sports programs depend on parents to assist with coaching and umpiring. If you are interested in coaching, please contact the Parks and Recreation office. "We are very grateful for the cooperation we get each year from parents," said Vincent Martorello, Parks and Recreation Director. "I would like to encourage first-time and seasoned coaches to volunteer this year. It’s a great way to get involved in our community." A coaches meeting will take place in February.

Updated rule books for the 2020 season will be posted online in February. The updated rule books feature new conduct pledges for coaches, parents, and players. The new pledges reinforce the league’s primary objectives of helping kids learn the game, learn the meaning of good sportsmanship, and enjoy themselves.

Registration for youth baseball and fast-pitch is open from January 15 until March 2. The season runs from April to July. Game times and locations vary based on field availability. The fee to play is $40 per player.

Register online at www.teamsideline.com/councilbluffs.
