The Iowa West Foundation announced March 19 that its board of directors has approved $500,000 in emergency funding to nonprofit and public health organizations who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 epidemic in southwest Iowa.
“The foundation is in a position to step in during this critical time of need, and we want to help,” Pete Tulipana, president and CEO of the Iowa West Foundation, said in a Daily Nonpareil report.
The emergency funding will be used by human service organizations who extend aid to people who are without food or shelter during the coronavirus pandemic, or those those who suffer from mental health or behavioral issues.
The funding would also be used by public health organizations to expand infrastructure for research and development of treatments to combat COVID-19.
“There are going to be very real effects on vulnerable members of our community,” Tulipana said. “We want to do everything we can to mitigate potential negative outcomes so that southwest Iowa continues to be a place where families want to live and businesses want to locate.”
