Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation (SWIEF) has awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 100 students who will be seniors this fall, The Daily Nonpareil reported April 4.
Those awarded with scholarships come from 22 different high schools in the southwest region of Iowa.
While the annual scholarship breakfast was canceled because of social distancing protocol, SWIEF said the scholarship is still going strong.
The organization’s president Tori Christie said, according to The Daily Nonpareil, “While we recognize the increased need for students to pursue a post-secondary education, we also recognize the financial difficulties and barriers students face as they embark on this endeavor. We hope to mitigate that burden, at least a bit, by offering some financial assistance.”
She saluted local families, organizations and individuals for their donations that helped fund the scholarship gift.
