Shelby County is offering $40,000 under a new grant for organizations needing assistance, according to Harlan Online.
Nonprofit organizations and local community projects that provide a service to locals and residents qualify for the grant. From the assistance, $37,150 is for county projects, $1,450 is for Harlan and the remaining $1,400 is for the Shelby community.
The deadline to apply was Sept. 1. Those who applied were required to show that they have supported the community and Shelby County, their 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, a local municipality or a project that is fiscally funded.
The purpose of the grant is to help boost and enhance the lifestyle for residents in Shelby by promoting various experiences like culture, civic engagement, education, health and social services.
The Shelby County Community Foundation is funding the grants. Those interested in donating are encouraged to reach out to a Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa staff or board member.
