Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann warned that if Democrats were given the chance, they would pack the Supreme Court with like-minded judges, SouthernMinn reported.

Kaufmann told reporters last week that Democrats threatened to pack the court and that "they’re trying to push statehood for D.C."

Republican leaders have said they will proceed with confirmation hearings before the general election next month after President Donald Trump announces his nominee.

“We’ll figure out where we go from there,” U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said, the news media reported.

Kaufmann told the news media that Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden needs to tell voters where he stands on court-packing, as well as his feelings regarding the Electoral College. The news media reported that in the past, Biden had been opposed to court-packing, but has since become silent on the subject.

Kaufmann said that Democrats are "hiding under a rock" so as not to have to answer their thoughts on the court.
