Gary Lewis was about as close to being anovernight success in the recording field as anyone can get. The comedy antics ofhis father Jerry Lewis skyrocketed him to fame when he was just barely out ofhis teens. In the summer of 1964 Gary Lewis and the Playboys were discovered byproducer Snuff Garret.
Before long, they had a string of hits including ThisDiamond Ring, Count Me In, Save Your Heart for Me, Everybody Loves a Clown,She’s Just My Style, Sure Gonna Miss Her, and many more. In 1965, Gary was CashBox Magazine’s “Male Vocalist of the Year,” winning the honor over fellownominees Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.
