After the state auditor accused the governor of her improper appearance in a COVID-19 public service announcement, he has been accused of using the power of his office for political gain.

Since then, the state ethics board has cleared Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds of any wrongdoing, KCCI reported.

"@RobSandIA doesn't defend his violation of the law. Instead, he attacks @AlanOstergren for something that happened almost 4 years ago. Is the Iowa State Auditor saying that he refused to produce public records out of political spite? Any comment, @newzgirl?" Iowa Field Report.com tweeted Oct. 5.

The Kirkwood Institute claims that Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand refused to hand over documents regarding its communications with a liberal blogger and a reporter, KCCI reported.

Sand is known as the taxpayer's watchdog, and for a good reason. He has always brought to light where exactly the taxpayer's money is going, We Are Iowa reported

The Iowa nonprofit, the Kirkwood Institute, has filed a lawsuit against Sand, claiming that his report had political overtones.
