The Iowa Hawkeye field hockey team is having its best season since 1992, when the program won its first 20 games of the season.
After an impressive pair of victories this weekend, the team has improved to a 12-0 record, Hawk Fanatic reported. The second of those victories comes against No. 7-ranked Maryland on the afternoon of Oct. 3. It is the program's first road win in College Park.
“Maryland is lethal in transition, and they tested us in many moments throughout the game," head coach Lisa Cellucci said, according to Hawk Fanatic. "We knew we would have to play outstanding team defense for 60 minutes today to stay in this game.”
With the wins, Iowa is not only 12-0 overall, but 4-0 in Big Ten play. The team has won five consecutive games against top-seven ranked opponents. The team is well on its way to rivaling the season turned in by the 1992 team.
Cellucci said that the team would savor the impressive win.
“I am so proud of the 27 women on this team and their continued focus and preparation day-in and day-out," Cellucci said. "We are going to enjoy this one.”
