Head coach Kirk Ferentz made his second in-season changing of the quarterback when he put Alex Padilla as the quarterback, replacing the two-year starter Spencer Petras.
"There is no quarterback controversy in Iowa City," tweeted Todd Brommelkamp. "Kirk Ferentz says Alex Padilla entered the game after Spencer Petras dinged his shoulder. 'At that point it was best for everybody.' #Hawkeyes."
In his 23-year coaching career, Kirk Ferentz has changed starting quarterbacks less than five times, Fan Nation.
Padilla's presence made the offense look competent for solid stretches in the game against Northwestern, SB Nation reported.
Ferentz said that he will "cross that bridge" when he gets there when asked on a decision on who will be the starter quarterback for the game Nov. 13, SB Nation reported. If Petras stays sidelined because of his injury, there is no controversy because Padilla is playing since Petras can't. However, if both the players are fit to play, then the coach will have to decide between the two. And if history is any indication, Ferentz will not be feeling comfortable in such a situation, Fan Nation reported.
