Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig recently released a video where he is seen announcing his decision to seek reelection in 2022.
"Harvest is wrapping up and Iowa farmers know that when one job is done, it's time to focus on the next. That's why today I'm excited to announce my campaign for 2022! #iapolitics #iagop #IowaAg," Mike Naig said in a tweet Dec. 7.
Naig was appointed as secretary of agriculture by Gov. Kim Reynolds in 2018, Radio Iowa reported. Naig is Iowa's 15th secretary of agriculture.
"Agriculture is the backbone of our state, our economy, and our rural communities," Naig said in a statement announcing his reelection, WHO 13 reported. "I've spent my entire life working in agriculture and I'll fight to ensure that the future remains bright for Iowa's hard-working family farmers and agriculture community."
Naig is an Iowa native and has worked in agriculture his whole life. In his statement, Naig also said, "We've worked to expand markets for Iowa farmers and our rural communities, working to meet the food and renewable fuel needs of consumers here and around the world."
