Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital recently issued the following announcement.
The planned Healing Pavilion at CHI Health Midlands is closer to becoming a reality, thanks to a generous gift from Veterans United Foundation. Leaders of both organizations were on hand on Nov. 10, when the hospital was presented with a $250,000 check toward the project.
The Healing Pavilion is part of the new VA Community Living Center (CLC) project at Midlands. In late April, CHI Health and the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System announced the unique, first-of-its kind partnership to open a 30,000 square foot, 34-bed facility that will be housed on the 5th and 6th floors of Midlands. The CLC is designed to provide short-stay rehabilitation, skilled-nursing care, and memory care to veterans and will be located in a community with rich military ties and just miles away from Offutt Air Force Base.
The Healing Pavilion will be visible from the CLC, and will feature several sections, including a gathering space for special events, a flag garden that is a salute to all branches of the military, and quiet spaces for reflection and meditation that will be open to all hospital patients, staff and the community. There is also an active space including a half basketball court and area where visitors and staff can play and engage in physical activity.
“This Healing Pavilion will provide a peaceful environment for our veterans and their loved ones during their stay at the future VA Community Living Center,” said Midlands President Kevin Miller. “We are extremely grateful for the Veterans United Foundation’s financial gift to help make this effort a reality. We are eager to serve the veterans in our community who have so bravely served our country.”
The CHI Health foundation continues to raise funds for the Healing Pavilion project, which will cost $2 million in total. Veterans United Foundation made their significant contribution to this effort after Veterans United employees voted to give a portion of the company’s 10th anniversary campaign funds back to Veterans in the Omaha Metro. Employees selected projects across the Midwest that would provide lasting impact for years to come.
