Calming Place to Renew Resiliency Added at Lakeside

32

Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital recently issued the following announcement.

These are days that call for resiliency and relaxation.

That said, what better way to support hard-working employees than to create a special place of calm? CHI Health Lakeside did just that by opening a Resiliency/Relaxation Room for all hospital staff in June.

“Employees can listen to soothing music, breathe in the scent of essential oils, and relax in one of two full-body massage chairs,” said Amanda Hunnel, RN Navigator, who coordinated the room with the Lakeside Employee Engagement Team. “It’s available to Lakeside staff to recharge and relax as needed.”

The room also provides yoga mats with a chart of optional positions, a stretching/balance ball, an oscillating fan and a phone charging station, she said.

“Our leaders have been encouraging staff to take their break there to unwind and relax,” Hunnel said. “Our staff have been very grateful to have the space.”

The Resiliency Room was funded by philanthropic gifts to the CHI Health Foundation from staff, physicians, board members and community members.

It replaces a much smaller room – designed for one person – used only by Nursing staff.

“We wanted staff to be able to enjoy the space with a co-worker and make it accessible to all staff,” she said.

Other CHI Health campuses have opened similar rooms or plan to do so in the future, Hunnel said.

Now more than ever, it’s important our organization creates the infrastructure needed to support physicians, nurses and care team members.
