Iowa's Department of Natural Resources issued a call for campground hosts for the upcoming recreation season.
They seeks people who enjoy the outdoors, camping and meeting new people for the volunteering opportunity, according to a release from the agency.
“Camping all summer sound like your jam?” the agency's official Twitter account posted Dec. 27. “We're looking for volunteer campground hosts in 11 state parks!”
Campground hosts live in the state parks up to five months and devote between 20 and 40 hours a week helping the Department of Natural Resources staff with light maintenance duties, checking in campers and being a resource for visitors.
The release said the volunteers will be provided a free campsite while they are actively hosting during the camping season.
“Campground hosts general duties include greeting visitors, assisting campers checking in and with reservations, cleaning bathrooms, light maintenance and administrative duties, acting as a liaison between campers and DNR staff and answering questions and disseminating information to campers,” the agency said on its website.
Campground hosts are required to pass a criminal background check before volunteering per the department’s Unsupervised Volunteers Background Check Policy.
