It has been a little more than a month since the Iowa State Cyclones women’s basketball team embarked on their lengthy winning streak, and forward Megan Kane has much to do with it.

Once an understudy who filled in solidly for the graduated Kristin Scott when the latter was lost to injury last season, the redshirt junior from West Jordan, Utah has seen her collegiate career take off this season.

Kane scored a career-high 17 points to go with six boards and three assists in the ninth-ranked Cyclones’ 78-47 home win over TCU at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 8, the Des Moines Register reported.

The victory kept the ISU’s perfect conference record intact at 3-0.

“I knew there was progress to be made and I knew what I needed to do,” she said in a postgame press conference posted on Cyclones.tv.

Kane’s big night on the scoreboard was part of a four-game string in which she racked up double-digit points, according to The Gazette.

Sophomore guard Aubrey Joens, who led all scorers with 21 points and dished out a team-high four assists in the TCU rout, attributes Kane’s breakout success to the latter’s work ethic.

“She’s buying in,” Joens told The Gazette. “She’s in the gym getting extra shots and working on post moves. Just to see all that hard work pay off in a game, it’s great to see. She impacts success every day.”

As of this writing, the Cyclones were in the midst of a two-game road trip which saw them earn a hard-fought 73-70 win over Kansas State.
