Good Morning! It's the first weekend in June and there are many events going on right here in Shelby County. Make sure to check out our events calendar at https://www.exploreshelbycounty.com/events.html

It's Friday and here are the Did You Know Highlights. Have a great weekend. 

Friday, June 3

Fly Fishing, 7 pm, Prairie Rose State Park, 680 Road M47, Harlan. Please meet near the north shelter house. Instructors will teach the basics of casting a fly rod and then let participants give fly fishing a try. Equipment will be provided. 

Saturday, June 4 – Opening Night – Racing at Shelby County Speedway. Pit Gates open at 4 pm; Grandstand Gates open at 5 pm; Hot Laps at 6:30 pm; and Racing at 7 pm. Tickets: Grandstand – Adults: $10; Students 6 – 18: $5; and Kids ages 5 and under Free. Pit Pass: $25.  

Trail of Fire Fundraising Concert for the Shelby County Trails. Fundraising Concert featuring Dylan Bloom and Luke Mills. Saturday, June 4 at St. Mary’s Parish Center, Panama. Gates open at 5 pm, music begins at 7 pm. Advanced tickets are $15 and can be purchased online, from any Shelby County Trails Committee member, Panama Fire Department members, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and all SCSB locations. Tickets are $20 day of the show. 

Sunday, June 5

Art in the Park. 10 – 3 pm, Pioneer Park, Harlan. Over 20 artists attending. Featured artist will be Eileen Anderson from Ankeny, IA. 

Log Cabin Day. 11:30 am-4 pm, Shelby County Historical Museum, Harlan. Experience Shelby County’s history through Bingo, miniature golf, games, train rides, fire truck exhibits, music, and so much more! Not only is this event family friendly - but it’s also free too.

Thursday, June 9

Summer Meals at the Harlan Community School District Intermediate School, 1401 19th Street, Harlan. Curbside and grab and go service will be available for all Harlan Community School students 11 – 12:30 pm. This program will be held every Thursday now through June 23.  Those wanting to participate are asked to please enter from the north-east driveway off of 19th Street. Seven days’ worth of breakfast and lunch will be served. Sit time facilities will not be available.

Hero’s Attic June Sale – Share Sale. Bring in six food items for the local food pantry to get 60% off of ONE furniture item. For the Backpack Program: fruit snacks, Spaghettios, Jell-O or pudding snack packs, cheese & cracker packs. For the food pantry: canned meats, canned soups, canned fruits and vegetables, any rice or pasta side dishes. Donations go to the West Central Community Action Food Pantry.
