5 Star CMS Awards Given to Various CHI Health Campuses

CHI Health Good Samaritan, for the second consecutive year, received the highest achievement possible from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). On July 27, CMS updated its Care Compare website with new 2021 data for Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. Good Samaritan was one of only six acute care hospitals in Nebraska, and the only acute care hospital west of Lincoln, to receive a five stars rating.

Other five-star CHI Health acute care hospitals include CHI Health Lakeside, Omaha and CHI Health Midlands, Papillion.

The Overall Star Ratings is designed to assist patients, consumers and others in comparing hospitals side-by-side. The more stars, the better the hospital performs on the quality measures including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.

The update is the second since the agency overhauled the ratings’ methodology in 2020. Go to Care Compare to learn more.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS’) Care Compare website provides consumers with information on how well hospitals and other facilities deliver care to patients and encourages healthcare facilities to make continued improvements in care quality. Care Compare reports information on more than 100 quality measures for over 4,000 hospitals nationwide and allows consumers to compare hospital performance across many conditions. Care Compare was created through the combined efforts of CMS in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, and other federal agencies. The data displayed on Care Compare are typically submitted by hospitals and other facilities in fulfillment of the reporting requirements of their respective quality reporting programs.
