As Page County residents are urged to quarantine if they come in contact with COVID-19, some are concerned about the enforcement methods suggested, according to KMA Land.
One of the recommendations is for those who are exposed to the coronavirus to be cited if they don’t comply with quarantine protocol.
“There was concern about confirmed cases not quarantining,” Page County local Jane Stimson informed the Board of Supervisors at a recent meeting, according to KMA Land. “People would see them out after they had been quarantined. One of the solutions brought up – and I wish it was a joke, but it didn’t come across as a joke – one of the solutions was ‘Maybe we should start charging them with a misdemeanor and a fine.’”
Despite concerns from locals like Stimson, Supervisors Chair Chuck Morris vowed to back any conclusion and enforcement the Board of Health comes up with.
"The Board of Public Health has the opportunity to make that decision and they are very qualified," Morris said, KMA Land reported. "They have doctors, they have nurses and they are the medical community that can make that decision better than me. I just think it's a crime that people who test positive blatantly infect other people or do it with disregard."
