Six plaintiffs brought a class-action lawsuit against the University of Iowa for gender equity violations almost a year ago. Now, the institution has agreed to pay $400,000 to settle the lawsuit.
"The Title IX lawsuit was originally brought forth when the University of Iowa decided to cut women's swimming at the end of their last athletic season," Hawk Central tweeted Oct. 7.
The women's swimming team brought forth a Title IX lawsuit against the University of Iowa in September 2020, Hawk Central reported.
As a result of the lawsuit, UI reinstated the women's swim team in February and is now obligated to keep the team running for at least seven years, The Gazette reported.
The lawsuit was brought by six female athletes after their swimming and diving program was dissolved, according to Hawk Central.
